Así es Josefina, una niña americana (The American Girls Collection)
Published in Paperback by Scott Foresman (Pearson K-12) (September, 1997)
Authors: Valerie Tripp, Jose Moreno, Jean-Paul Tibbles, and Susan McAliley
Average review score:

A GREAT TRANSLATION OF A WONDERFUL BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've enjoyed the American Girls Collection books for years, and was thrilled to see that Josefina's books from the American Girls Series were printed in Spanish as well as English. Jose Moreno does an excellent job translating Josefina's books into Spanish--the story stays the same as if you were reading the original English version--nothing is lost. This book, like the English one, tells the story of how Josefina's family copes with the death of Josefina's mother, and how Tia Dolores comes to stay with them. Even more funny is the story of Tia Dolores's piano, which sounds even more funny in the Spanish version than it does in English. I hope that one day the rest of the books in the American Girls series--the adventures of Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Kit, and Molly--will one day be available in Spanish as well.

"A Heartfelt Toast For The Ones We Love"
A truly remarkable book! Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. Original, creative, heartfelt and sincere toasts. "Crisp Toasts" is the answer for "those of us" who don't know exactly what to say and when to say it. It gives you direct guidance on helping you find the "perfect" toast for the "perfect" couple. Sincere and meaningful examples are given, some serious and others funny, and insight as to which one is appropriate depending on the situation. I have recommended it to many friends and relatives. What a wonderful reference book to keep throughout the years.

Crowell's Handbook of Classical Mythology
Published in Hardcover by Ty Crowell Co (June, 1970)
Author: Edward Tripp
Average review score:

the best classical mythology reference guide by far!
Tripp put in all in here: characters, tribes, geographical divisions and more. Character entries feature any alternate names for the character, other personae identified with the character, parentage (or creation or other origin), and a synopsis of every myth containing the character, including notations of any conflicts between tellings by different poets and mythographers. Geographical division entries feature alternate names, history of founding or establishment, and notable births, rulerships and events within them. Tripp must have invested painstaking effort to make this book this thorough and complete -- it shames all other classical mythology references guides that I've ever seen!

Granfa' Grig Had a Pig and Other Rhymes Without Reason
Published in Paperback by Little Brown & Co (Juv Pap) (December, 1976)
Authors: Wallace Tripp and Mother Goose

Great Rhymes, Great pictures, Great puns
This is a book for the nursery rhyme set that erudite parents will enjoy as well. It has one or two standards (some not so standard) per page, cleverly illustrated with a wide range of the cutest anthropomorphic animals since Walt Kelly's "Pogo". The rhymes and pictures alone would make it a three-star book, a good standard collection. But there's more. Mr. Tripp has his animals make little asides, much like the penguin in "Oliphant", and scatters sight gags liberally throughout his illustrations.

For "Higglety-pigglety, my black hen, she lays eggs for gentlemen", for instance, a happy bear admires the hen and says "egg-squisite".

A list of four dozen contestants at a pie eating contest includes "Sally Forth" and "Robin Banks".

Scattered about the clouds for "There was an old woman tossed on a blanket" are a pretty complete set of milestones from aviation history; spitfire, sopwith camel, X-1, mercury capsule, and a fellow with a dozen swans in a silken harness.

I was glad I bought the hardcover edition; the paperback would have worn out.

If Only You Could Read My Mind: A Guide to Help Couples Understand Each Other and Connect
Published in Paperback by General Store Publishing House (28 September, 2000)
Authors: Clare Bowles, Christine Tripp, and Jane Karchmar
Average review score:

Down to earth and practical to a couple new to MBTI
The cartoon of a couple each reaching past the other is what attracted me to pick up this book. Then when I flipped through it and saw that it was Psychological Type based, I bought it for my collection.

This is a book that a couple therapist wrote and had published to fill a need. It is something a couple could take away with them and are likely to read. Usually the couple can understand the concepts in the therapist's office but when they get back home the ideas get rather fuzzy. This book is short enough with lots of examples that it is likely to be read and understood.

There is a movement within the type community to look at the whole type and its complexity, but most of us working in the trenches are still dealing with helping people understand the differences within the eight preferences. Usually we don't have them long enough to get into anything more complex than the difference between being an introvert and an extrovert, etc.

This book does just that. It looks at how relationships have changed over the years due to changing roles of men and women. Then it devotes a chapter to each of the dimensions of behaviour with lots of short examples of dialogue. The last four chapters deal with better listening techniques, how to be understood, dealing with anger and criticism, and other difficult communication issues. Each of these relates to the information on type gained in the previous chapters.

This is a book I would recommend to professionals and casual readers. The professionals can gain some additional anecdotes they can use in their sessions and it is a book to recommend to their clients. The casual reader can also just pick it up, read it and gain some useful insights without having someone more knowledgeable to interpret it....
